Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 100, Dec. 18, 2015

In the past three days, Gus Malzahn’s Auburn Tigers have defied conventional wisdom that the precipitous departure of 2015 defensive coordinator Will Muschamp and his sidekick, Travaris Robinson, would destroy recruiting momentum.  In a flurry of phenomenal recruiting news, the Tigers captured the signatures (some on Financial Aid Agreements, some actual NLI signings) of top Alabama recruit 5-star Marlon Davis, JUCO QB John Franklin III, JUCO DE Paul James, III, DB John Broussard, 4-star RB Malik Miller, 4-star LB Tre Threat, and 4-star TE Landon Rice.

As icing on the cake in a monster week, Malzahn and staff beat out Ohio State’s Urban Meyer for the commitment of 4-star Antwuan Jackson, a Rivals 250 recruit with enormous upside at the DT position.  Of vital importance, NINE of the current 18 commitments / signees will enroll at Auburn in January, which gives Malzahn & staff a full Spring and Summer to get them ready to ball out this Fall.

Join Coach Ray and Doug Dean as they break down the latest recruiting boom, where things stand with the defensive coordinator search, and of course, a requisite celebration for reaching the 100th podcast milestone with the Auburn Football All-Access podcast show!

Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 99, Dec. 13, 2015

The recruiting dead period has arrived without Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn filling the vacancy left by former AU defensive coordinator Will Muschamp.  While not ideal, Malzahn will be able to stabilize recruiting in January if a solid defensive coordinator hire is made soon.

Join Coach John Ray and Doug Dean as they discuss potential candidates, and the recruiting landscape in this coaching transition.

Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 98, Dec. 8, 2015

Coach Gus Malzahn faces a significant hurdle in rebuilding his defensive coaching staff in the wake of Will Muschamp’s “one and done” departure to succeed the Ole Ball Coach at South Carolina.  Muschamp is also taking Travaris Robinson with him, and possibly Lance Thompson, so who will Malzahn go after to quickly restore continuity on the defense even as the recruiting dead period prohibiting live visits is upon us?

Join Coach Ray and Doug Dean for the analysis, and an funny recruiting story from back in the day from Coach Ray.

Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 97, Dec. 4, 2015

With Gus Malzahn’s Auburn Tigers having completed a very disappointing 6-6 regular season, attention now turns to preparing for 2016 on many fronts.  First, stabilizing exactly who will be the coaching staff for ’16, with rumors swirling of defensive coordinator Will Muschamp as a possible head coaching hire at South Carolina, which would undoubtedly impact Auburn defensive recruiting adversely.  Second, developing the young talent on the team given the luxury of 15 additional practices for the Bowl game.

Join Coach Ray and Doug Dean for their usual analysis of what’s top of mind this week with the Auburn Tigers.

And listeners will also enjoy an in-depth interview with special guest Jason Wilson, Auburn University graduate and CEO of Back Forty Beer Company.  You will feel your craft beer IQ increase in this fascinating segment!

Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 96, Nov. 30, 2015

Join Coach John Ray and Doug Dean as they analyze the 80th Iron Bowl, which went Bama’s way 29-13, despite a serious threat from the Tigers which took the game into the 4th quarter with only 6 points separating the teams.

The cohosts also take a look forward as to what the Tigers will need to work to overhaul and improve in both the bowl practice sessions and as spring practice approaches.

Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 95, Nov. 27, 2015

With the 80th Iron Bowl looming this Saturday, November 28th in Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Coach John Ray and Doug Dean welcome special guest and Auburn legend David Housel.  A veritable walking encyclopedia on Auburn vs Alabama lore and history, Mr. Housel brings perspective, humor, and insight to the discussion.  Cohosts Coach John Ray and Doug Dean engage dialogue with Mr. Housel on whether the most intense rivalry in the nation has become nastier in the post-1970’s modern era, and his answer will surprise the millenials.

Coach Ray and Dean also analyze what Gus Malzahn, defensive guru Will Muschamp, and staff must do to find a way to pull what most would consider to be a shocker upset over the No. 2 in the nation ranked Alabama Crimson Tide.  But would it really be a shocker, if you have an insight into the nature of this rivalry, and you consider that the 2013 Auburn Tigers were also, remarkably, a 10 ½ point underdog to the Tide in what would be immortalized as the “Kick Six” Iron Bowl.  The answer looms just hours away in the Loveliest Village.

Tuning in with special interest and a “War Eagle” from Hugh Freeze will be the Ole Miss Rebels, who need an Auburn upset of the Tide and a win in the Egg Bowl to punch their first ever ticket to the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta.

Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 94, Nov. 23, 2015

Join Coach John Ray and Doug Dean as they break down what Auburn coach Gus Malzahn and his staff appeared to be working on in the Idaho win to prepare for the Iron Bowl matchup with # 2 ranked Alabama on Saturday, November 28th in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

As heavy 14 ½ point underdogs, what strategy gives Auburn the best shot to add Alabama to the growing list of highly ranked teams whose dreams get shot from the sky in November?  It will almost certainly include defensive coordinator Will Muschamp’s plan to do everything possible to slow Derrick Henry and the rushing attack, putting the game in the hands of quarterback Jacob Coker, who will face his first Iron Bowl test under significant pressure.

And then there’s the little problem of how to sustain drives and score on the vaunted Tide defense . . .

Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 93, Nov. 20, 2015

Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn finds himself in quite unexpected territory at this late stage of the 2015 season, having to beat 3-7 Idaho to simply become bowl eligible.  With the # 2 ranked Crimson Tide looming on November 28th in the Iron Bowl, are there steps Auburn can take to be at least competitive in an Iron Bowl that most anticipate to be a lopsided Bama win?

Join Coach John Ray and Doug Dean as they discuss this game week, the Auburn quarterback situation going into 2016, and a little start on Iron Bowl analysis and preview.

Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 92, Nov. 16, 2015

Despite holding the Georgia Bulldogs to a paltry 243 yards of total offense, Gus Malzahn’s Auburn Tigers could not deliver, yet again, offensively, dropping a 20-13 loss to embattled Mark Richt’s Georgia Bulldogs.

Coach John Ray and Doug Dean discuss the key turning points in the game, questionable moves made offensively, and on a positive note, how well the Auburn defense performed in the game.
