Can the Auburn Tigers continue surging in SEC title game rematch with Georgia?

After thrashing No. 1 ranked Alabama 26-14 in a game which could have been an even bigger margin for Auburn, the Tigers have positioned themselves for what amounts to a play-in game for the four-team playoff.

Are in-season rematches really “tricky” for the winner of the first game, as some pundits like to suggest this week? Not historically, no, and the intrigue as to what strategic elements Kirby Smart’s UGA staff will change to produce a more competitive game is captivating.

Or in the end will it be no more complicated – barring a rash of turnovers – than which team is able to win the physical war in the trenches? If so, advantage Auburn Tigers.

Auburn makes case as America’s hottest team in a dominant win over Alabama

With almost every SEC football poker chip pushed out on the table set in Jordan-Hare Stadium this past Saturday, Gus Malzahn’s Auburn Tigers played almost every hand brilliantly, putting away archrival Crimson Tide by the score of 26-14. The Tigers held a potent Bama offense scoreless in both the First and Fourth Quarter, while racking up over 400 yards of offense against the Tide defense.

In winning the SEC West Championship for the second time over Alabama in five years, Auburn punched its ticket for a rematch game with the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game next Saturday.

Join Coach John Ray and Doug Dean for an in-depth look at what the Auburn coaching staff did so very well to beat Nick Saban’s Tide team soundly in all three phases of the football game.

With an epic beatdown of No. 1 Georgia on the resume, Auburn looks to La Mo

If the November 11th game against Georgia was a referendum on Auburn Coach Gus Malzahn’s job security, you can go ahead and end any and all talk of any proverbial hot seat. All Malzahn’s Tigers did was absolutely dominate the No. 1 ranked Bulldogs from start to finish.

And remarkably, most believe the now No. 6 ranked Tigers truly do control their own destiny, and should they find a way to run the table through ULM this Saturday, then Bama in the Iron Bowl, and a rematch with Georgia in the SEC Championship Game, they are in the four team playoff.

Gus Malzahn must be pinching himself this game week, as only a month ago, the angry mob was gathering in Auburn in the wake of a very avoidable road loss to LSU.

Now, Auburn sits in the No. 10 ranked Playoff Selection Committee poll, but with resume boosters in the next few games that no other team in America can boast.

The question, obviously, is whether this team, and this Malzahn coaching staff, has adapted, gained confidence, and is ready to take down the No. 1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs with the help of a rabid crowd in packed Jordan-Hare stadium this Saturday.

Auburn Network Color Analyst Stan White previews the Auburn vs Texas A&M game

While the open week undoubtedly help the Auburn coaching staff get some walking wounded starters back to full speed, the unfortunate exception was the loss of RB Kam Pettway with a fractured scapula from the Arkansas game.

Meanwhile, the Tigers, surprisingly, enter November with a heck of a lot still on the line due to their remaining opponents in the Aggies, followed by # 1 ranked Georgia, and # 2 ranked Alabama. The big stage is set, so the question to be answered is whether this Auburn team will thrive, or wilt, under a huge spotlight.

Join cohosts Coach John Ray and Doug Dean along with special guest Stan White, Auburn Network color analyst, in a detailed scouting report on the Auburn vs Texas A&M game coming up this Saturday, November 4th in College Station.
