Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 141, Dec. 12, 2016

Christmas has arrived two weeks early for Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn, as 5-star Baylor transfer QB Jarrett Stidham announced this weekend that Auburn would be the fortunate winner in the fierce competition for Stidham’s signature. Then, on the heels of that outstanding news, Malzahn also got a boost at the running back position for 2017, as Kamryn Pettway announced that he had “unfinished business” at Auburn, and would return for the next season.

Add to this news the likelihood that Groza Award finalist kicker Daniel Carlson will also return for the ’17 season, and things are looking a bit brighter for Auburn as they prepare for a January 2nd matchup with the Oklahoma Sooners in the Sugar Bowl.

Join Coach John Ray and Doug Dean for this analysis and more!

Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 140, Nov. 30, 2016

Join Coach Ray and Doug Dean as they take one quick look in the rear view mirror at Auburn’s 30-12 loss to Alabama in the Iron Bowl, and what appeared to be missing in the missed opportunity for an upset.

With Auburn, quite surprisingly, the second highest ranked SEC team, the Tigers appear headed to a January 2nd Sugar Bowl to face Oklahoma or possibly Oklahoma State. Where will Malzahn look to correct the anemia that struck the offense early season and down the stretch and caused this team to squander a season in which the Tigers played outstanding defense?

Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 139, Nov. 23, 2016

Despite well-worn cliches about throwing the record books out in the Iron Bowl series between bitter arch-rivals Auburn and Alabama, the favorite has tended to win this game more years than not. With Vegas pegging # 1 ranked and undefeated Alabama an 18.5 point favorite, it does not appear to point toward a major upset this Saturday, November 26th.

Or does it?

Join Coach John Ray and Doug Dean as they discuss the Tigers’ probable “narrow path” to what at least “experts” would call a major upset over Bama. The Tigers will, in fact, be fielding possibly the deepest, most fierce defense the Tide has faced all year, according to head coach Nick Saban himself in his Monday presser.

But will Malzahn find the formula, even as his offense has been dealt a barrage of injuries, to sustain drives, get Groza Award finalist kicker Daniel Carlson in field goal range multiple times, and find the end zone through the air since this Tide defense rarely surrenders a TD on the ground?

Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 138, Nov. 16, 2016

With a ton of implications on the game with Georgia, including the opportunity to make the November 26th Iron Bowl matchup with Alabama a winner-take-all for the SEC West, the Auburn Tigers managed to produce their worst offensive performance of the year, making zero first downs in the 2nd half in a 13-7 loss.

Where does Malzahn head now, as running back injuries and a gimpy starting QB in Sean White add up to gloomy prospects versus first ranked Alabama?  Join Coach John Ray and Doug Dean for the analysis.

Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 137, Nov. 10, 2016

In the aftermath of the September 17th 29-16 loss to the Texas A&M Aggies, it would have taken a Lee County, Alabama all points bulletin to locate a single fan willing to lay hard earned money that head coach Gus Malzahn would go on to put the Auburn Tigers entirely in control of their own destiny for the SEC Championship.  And yet, as Georgia game week arrives, that is exactly the position the Tigers find themselves in, which only serves to increase the pressure to find a way to win between the hedges in Athens, Georgia.

This game, interestingly, also provides the intrigue of pitting what were at the time the two finalist candidates to replace fired Auburn head coach Gene Chizik in 2013, with Kirby Smart getting a good look before AD Jay Jacobs hired Gus Malzahn.

Join Coach John Ray and Doug Dean as they welcome special guest, former Auburn QB Randy Campbell as they analyze this vitally important game.  With the likelihood of big bruiser RB Kam Pettway out for this game with a quadricep injury, what is the right formula for Malzahn and defensive coordinator Kevin Steele to bring the “W” home, and set up a massively huge November 26th tilt with # 1 ranked Alabama?

Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 136, Nov. 7, 2016

In the short span of mere weeks, Gus Malzahn’s Auburn Tigers have vaulted from hoping to salvage a respectable 2016 season after two tough early losses, to suddenly contending for the SEC West Division title.  Rarely do college football seasons run their course without the entirely unexpected jolt of major upsets, and such was the case on November 5th, as the Mississippi State Bulldogs knocked off the # 4 ranked CFB Playoff team, the Texas A&M Aggies.

Add to the upset of the Aggies the Florida Gators falling to an Arkansas team that Auburn destroyed 56-3, and Auburn could rightly consider itself among the fortunate in escaping a determined and pesky visiting Vanderbilt team by the score of 23-16.  The win placed the Tigers in the remarkable position of needing only a road win over their rival Georgia Bulldogs this Saturday, November 12th in Athens to make the Iron Bowl tilt with Alabama a “winner take all” for the SEC West title and trip to Atlanta for the SEC Championship game.

Join Coach John Ray and Doug Dean as they discuss the struggles that befell the Tigers in the Vanderbilt game, and how Malzahn’s Tigers can overcome injury issues to beat the Georgia Bulldogs.

Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 135, Nov. 4, 2016

As Auburn prepares to host the surprisingly capable Vanderbilt Commodores this Saturday, momentum is surging, as the first College Football Playoff rankings landed the Tigers in the 9th spot with the SEC West race still very much undecided.

Gus Malzahn has been clear this week that the sole focus of his staff and team is a Vanderbilt team that plays very stingy defense and has a big win over Georgia on its 2016 resume this season.

Join Coach John Ray and Doug Dean as they break down where Gus Malzahn’s Tigers stand, and where Vandy could represent a threat if not taken seriously.  If the Tigers pull off this win against the ‘Dores as most expect, a trip to Athens between the hedges is up next, which would be the last major step in setting up a very large Iron Bowl indeed on November 26th in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 134, Oct. 31, 2016

On a perfect Saturday night for college football in Oxford’s Vaught-Hemingway stadium, the Ole Miss Rebel Black Bears and Auburn Tigers put on a show for those fans who are partial to blowing out the scoreboard bulbs.  Behind the nearly indefensible aerial attack of Ole Miss’s Chad Kelly (at least in the first half) and the irresistible force of the Auburn rushing attack, the teams combined for over 1,000 yards of offense and 69 total points in a very big 40-29 win for the Auburn Tigers.

Despite Auburn entering this important SEC West road contest sporting the 3rd in the nation ranked scoring defense, Auburn allowed Kelly to break the long-standing single game passing yardage record held by Rebels legend Archie Manning.  Yet, it would prove to be a hollow accolade for Chad Kelly and the Rebs, as Auburn played relentless, physical offense, turnover-free, opportunistic defense in critical moments, and made just enough stops of the potent Ole Miss attack to escape the Grove with a very big win, holding the Rebs to 29 points, as compared to the 43 surrendered by the Bama defense in Oxford.

Join Coach Ray, Doug Dean, and special guest analyst Coach Hunter Adams as they analyze all that went down in this wild game, as well as what the Auburn staff needs to polish heading into what could be one dramatic finish to the SEC season in November!

Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 133, Oct. 25, 2016

In what could be classified as the understatement of the 2016 football season thus far for the Auburn Tigers, what a difference one month makes.  Embattled and feeling major heat on the seat in September, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn has suddenly hit on almost all the right answers in the past two SEC West outings, winning in convincing fashion in Starkville, followed by completely dominating the Razorbacks in every phase 56-3 last Saturday night.

Join Coach John Ray and Doug Dean as they discuss the next big test for the surging Tigers, a road trip to Oxford to take on a capable, yet beaten Ole Miss Rebels team who is coming off of two consecutive road losses in Fayettville and Baton Rouge, a 38-21 drubbing led by a now healthy Leonard Fournette.

Don’t look now, but the Tigers are actually in the not inconceivable position of working themselves into the SEC West championship picture if they win the next few games leading up to the November 26th classic against # 1 ranked Bama.

Auburn Football All-Access Podcast, Episode 132, Oct. 20, 2016

Fresh off a very impressive 38-14 road annihilation of the Mississippi State Bulldogs, Gus Malzahn’s Auburn Tigers benefited from a much needed open date last weekend.  Meanwhile, Auburn’s next opponent, the Arkansas Razorbacks, will come to Jordan-Hare to take on the Tigers for what will be Bert Bielema’s team’s seventh consecutive week of play without rest.

This game is probably more crucial to Gus Malzahn after his early season woes, and since Hog fans generally seem to have embraced Bielema as their long-term head coach.

Vegas likes the Tigers comfortably if the Auburn -9.5 line is any indication, but the Razorbacks have been known to upset the apple cart in Jordan-Hare before.  Join Coach John Ray and Doug Dean as they analyze all aspects of this important SEC West tilt, and how Auburn will attack the Hogs to capitalize on weaknesses.
